Barrelhouse Conference

Just spent the weekend in Virginia at a conference sponsored by Barrelhouse. If you don't know all the great stuff they do for writers, check them out.

Sometimes I get to do things with some wonderful folks, and this past weekend that was with Lacey N. Dunham and D'Real Graham on a panel called "Words that Matter." We spoke about the work we do in service to others as writers; Lacey hairld fro PEN/Faulkner and D'Real from 826 DC and I spoke about writing with patients in the WVU Cancer Institute. So much goodness in one place--and that was just our panel. Heard wonderful readings, went to other great sessions, and of course BOX WINE HAPPY HOUR!

And a special thanks to Dave Housely at Barrelhouse, who organizes this shindig!

Spring and Travels to Gettysburg

The temps finally rose enough that some outside time with Limonata San Pellegrino was in order. In truth a bit more like summer than spring, but as we bounce around, who knows. Still, seems like a good enough reason to wish everyone Happy Spring, and use this fun sipping lemon I found on one of my outings with Natalie Sypolt.

I traveled to Gettysburg, PA this week to be the featured reader at the Ragged Edge Coffee shop's First Friday. I love local poetry events, and my hosts, Marty, Jane, Gary (who was a regular until he moved west), and Katy were delightful, as was the whole group in attendance. It's the kind of thing that reminds you that all is alive and well with poetry.

I tried out some newer poems, and the fun poem composed completely of Prince song titles. Of course purse and outfit matched for the occasion.

Thanks for such a lovely time!

Pre-Order Bodies of Truth!

I'm excited to share this new project with you: Bodies of Truth. My co-editors Dinty W. Moore and Erin Murphy taught me much about putting together an anthology, and many thanks to University of Nebraska Press for believing in our project.

My two friends/colleagues from WVU help sum up the range of voices: Dr. Matthew Smith from WVU School of Medicine/Department of Neurology and Mark Brazaitis from Creative Writing. This volume brings together many voices, perspectives and stories around illness, disability, and medicine.

April Fools?

Gelsey, my beloved golden, took a rest in the fresh cut grass, underbelly and paws tinged green. The sun warmed the neighborhood around us.

But will it last, or will it snow (again) in April?
