New SummerBooks Episode

Episode twenty-two of SummerBooks features Quiet Dell by Jayne Anne Phillips. You can now listen here, at summerbooks.podbean.com, or subscribe via iTunes. Later this month, SummerBooks will be podcasting from the Winter Wheat Festival of Writing.

SummerBooks Update

Episode twenty is now live, featuring Love and Terror on the Howling Plains of Nowhere by Poe Ballantine. At Browns Park in Preston County, West Virginia, Natalie and I sit on a rock (I know, a rock!) and discuss the book, true crime, literary nonfiction, Hawthorne Books, coal trucks driving by, community, a bug on my forehead, and the need to know a mixologist.

For those who regularly follow, our next podcast is our annual Rose Metal Press edition. We will also be doing a podcast event at Winter Wheat, sponsored by the inimitable Mid American Review in November. Our sophomore season is sizzling!

All kinds of new content

Phew! August has been a busy month, and we're ony halfway through.

For those of you who follow my Career Thoughts articles, the newest is available online, "How to Make the Most of Your First Job."

Another will be posted soon, about ways to show your employer that you're serious about your career.

On another front altogether, my friend, fellow writer, and SummerBooks Co-host, Natalie Sypolt and I were thrilled to podcast from the Press 53 Gathering of Writers Event. In one day, we did eight shorter podcasts, where we talked with writers, editors, and participants. Check out the new podcasts on the SummerBooks website or iTunes.

The next SummerBooks selection will be forthcoming later this month, and features Poe Ballentine's Love and Terror on the Howling Plains of Nowhere.

Students are coming or returning to the WVU campus today, and classes start Monday, August 19th.

Reading at the West Virginia Writers' Workshop

On Friday, July 19th, Natalie Sypolt and I read at the West Virginia Writers' Workshop during a storm. And when were finished, the rains had let up, but only temporarily.

To hear an audio podcast of our reading, check out summerbooks.podbean.com or find it under SummerBooks on iTunes.

I wore a fun vintage dress because I could.

New SummerBooks Podcast

Episode nineteen of SummerBooks featuring You Are One of Them by Elliott Holt is live on the SummerBooks website or on iTunes.

Find out about our upcoming "Live From..." events, too.
