Writing and Editing Services

I'm a writer, editor, and literary critic with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and six published books spanning poetry, memoir-in-essays, and fiction. For years I've worked at the intersection of craft and the page — as a longtime director of the West Virginia Writers' Workshop, as a staff book reviewer for The Los Angeles Review, and as a voting member of the National Book Critics Circle. I know what it takes to move a piece of writing from draft to publication, and I know the difference a skilled editorial eye can make.

In my editorial work, I bring those same instincts, honed through my own publishing life in venues like The Gettysburg Review, River Teeth, and New Ohio Review, to my client's memoir, essay, poetry, and fiction. Whether you're shaping a personal essay collection, working toward your first publication, finding the through-line of a longer project, or developing a novel, I can help you hear what your writing is doing and strengthen what it's reaching for. As Series Editor for the Connective Tissue imprint at WVU Press, I also provide developmental support for book-length projects, from proposal to manuscript.

Book-Length Manuscript Development

Drawing on my experience as Series Editor at WVU Press, director of the West Virginia Writers' Workshop, and author of six books across poetry, memoir-in-essays, and fiction, I offer developmental editing and structural feedback for memoirs, essay collections, novels, and poetry manuscripts.
